Senior Director/ Executive Director – Therapeutic Discovery (Protein Engineering)

3T Biosciences is solving a major bottleneck in the field of immunotherapy – identifying novel targets that can be used to generate therapies to treat cancer in broad patient populations. We are developing transformative T cell receptor therapies for cancer and other immune-related diseases. Our proprietary experimental and computational technology allows us to identify novel T cell receptor targets as well as clinical toxicities to bring safe and effective therapies.

We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Director of Antibody/Protein Engineering with broad technical and management expertise and relevant industry experience to lead protein engineering projects. A successful candidate will play a key role in biotherapeutics discovery, providing scientific direction across multiple therapeutic programs. The candidate will lead internal and external biologics drug discovery projects from target selection to nomination of development candidates. The candidate will report to the Co-Founder and VP of Discovery and work closely with the Leadership Team.

Your Typical Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage 3T’s Protein Engineering Team, provide direct management, and mentorship for internal scientific staffs
  • Lead design, generation, and optimization of differentiated antibodies, antibody fragments,
  • Lead design, generation and optimization of multi-specific cell engager therapeutic formats
  • Oversee internal and external library and binder generation campaigns
  • Serve as an internal expert in humanization, library design, selection, and screening
  • Work closely with protein sciences group to deliver leads with excellent developability and manufacturability
  • Collaborate with teams across different functional groups to drive projects from idea conception through proof-of-concept
  • Lead technology development in antibody/protein engineering and molecular biology by providing strategic direction and implementing innovative approaches
  • Contribute and evaluate new ideas in drug discovery and therapeutic strategy
  • Collaborate with external academic and industry partner(s) to strengthen capabilities
  • Prepare and present detailed analysis and reports to the project team, senior management, board, and external collaborators

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Biological Sciences (e.g., Immunology, Molecular and Cell Biology, Bioengineering, and/or related disciplines) with at least 10 years relevant experience and 5+ years leading teams in industry
  • Demonstrated scientific leadership experience including the ability to develop and mentor others
  • Strong people management skills and ability to build, influence, and lead a team to meet or exceed goals and timelines
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad audience both internally and externally
  • Self-motivated, creative, and focused; able to work within a team and to collaborate with colleagues to achieve program goals
  • Deep understanding of protein engineering and therapeutic engineering and validation process through phage, yeast, mammalian display
  • Experience using protein engineer / synthetic biology principles to generate proteins
  • Experience with protein expression, purification and characterization is preferred
  • Prior nonclinical IND development experience

The anticipated salary range for fully qualified candidates applying for this role at 3T Biosciences California based location will be $210,000 – $301,000 (which may or may not include bonus, equity, or benefits). The final salary offered will be dependent on several factors that include and are not limited to relevant previous experience, job responsibilities and duration of experience, the type and length of experience within the industry and education.
